1.18 Can anybody help me with the Abucus ASD scenery designer?

CAN ANYBODY HELP ME WITH THE ABACUS ASD SCENERY DESIGNER?
A:
I am new to the world of scenery design. Let me share some of my experiences. Do you have the upgrade version 1.1 for FS98? I recently upgraded mine with the free (to registered users) upgrade patch. This patch is available on Abacus's web site. I also could not get the wizard to work. Also, I was having trouble with the upgrade. I called Adam, the ASD Tech, he was very helpful. Because I had already installed the upgrade he suggested that I first delete the upgrade, through the control panel, then reinstall the old version, because they use a shared file. He then had me delete the ASDesign.exe. I then ran the upgrade. Next for the wizard problem, he had me make sure that in the preferences dialog box, ASD was pointing to FS98. Also, he said to go to the compiler tab & make sure that the compiler was also pointing to FS98. My ASD now works like a charm. Try to get a copy of FSWOW from TekMate. This has a ton of 3D objects that all you do is place them in your scenery by click & drag. Also, the ASD, version 1.1 now lets you preview your scenery through the use of thumbnails. Hopes this helps as I think ASD is probably the easiest to use.

I agree with you. ASD can be extremely temperamental at
times. I have the feeling every time I use it that it was written by
someone and then given to someone else to finish who had absolutely
no idea what it was supposed to do! It does some things very, very
well - has some features I wish Airport had. In the final analysis,
whenever I want really first class scenery, I always use Airport. BTW
- if you don't have it, there is a version 2.05f that really is
approaching professional quality. They are working on vers 3 which
will allow a "virtual walkthru" of the airport without FS running!
May be pretty much what we've been needing.

Although I've also criticized ASD myself from time to time, I
will say that they did add a taxi way sign making utility recently,
and have promised a macro making utility (I assume something along
the lines of VOD) soon. Three other utilities I'd like to see them or
someone add: a dynamic airplane maker (based on the new MSFS system
where the planes don't run you over if you happen to be on the runway
at the same time); a utility to convert dynamic aircraft to static;
and a complete sign maker for making any kind of sign and placing
them on buildings if desired.

P.S. So far as I know, ASD was the exclusive work of only one programmer -
Peter Jacobsen.
