Q:
I'M GETTING A MESSAGE - "PERFORMED ILLEGAL FUNCTION" - AND FS98 SHUTS DOWN WHEN I USE AREA FILES\SCENERY SEARCH.
A:
Hmmm! I never use this so I haven't experienced it. However, if you know the folder that you want to add and it is "in line" with other scenery folders, highlight one of them in the scenery library, edit it, highlight the path, press Ctrl-c and cancel the edit.
Now, press the Add button and position the cursor in the path box. Press Ctrl-v to paste the path of the other file. Click the cursor to unhighlight the path and then edit to replace the other folder name with your new one. This should light up the next box down and you can enter a description for the scenery. Change the type to "local", turn on the "active" button and, if you care to, change the priority to position the file alphabetically in the list. This isn't necessary, but it makes it easier to locate it later when the list has 50-60 entries. That's all, and it is a lot easier than it sounds and a lot faster than searching the whole disk just to get the path.
