Q:

HOW DO I INSTALL 3RD PARTY ADD-ON SCENERY?

A:

Every scenery download has a text doc with it which tells you how to load it!

I followed the same steps for FS98 and I have it all running.

Generally there are ..........bglfiles,
                    ..........r8 files
                    ..........oav files.

If you see the folders under FS98 in your explorer, you will see the structure as this

Fs98\
     scenery\
\Texas ...(If Texas is the name of the scenery)
                  \scenery
\.bgl ...(All the bgl files go here)
\Texture ...(All the r8 and oav files etc go here)
                          \.oav
                          \.r8

In some cases the .r8 and the .oav files may also be asked by the designer to be added to the main texture folder under FS98 instead of the above sub texture folder.

FS98\
    \Texture
            \.oav
            \.r8

Then there may be some stn files that need to be copied to the pilot folder if he says so.

Point is follow the text file.

Having loaded them into your directory, Now we got to let FSD98 include it in it's scenery library.

For this,The steps are :-

  1. Start the FS98
  2. Click World
  3. Click Scenery library
  4. Click OK when it asks you whether you are Competent????
  5. Click Files
  6. Click Add
  7. In the resulting page Type out as to where our dream scenery is ie the path name. For eg, the path could be :- C:\Program files\Microsoft Games\FlightSim\scenery\Northsea\scenery\*.bgl (Don't forget to type the last bit as *.bgl Then only FS98 will take all the bgl files. Also note that scenery word appears twice since that is how we got it in our directory)
  8. Type a name for your scenery. (You can keep the same name or a name of your choice) Only if the path was right will we be able to continue to this next line to type out a name for the scenery. This name is to show up in the Scenery Library under Scenery FS6.0 and before listing, later when you select it.
  9. Select Local instead of the default Global in the dropdown box.
  10. Click on the adjacent green box to select Active.
  11. Now just keep clicking on the OK buttons till you return to original screen.
  12. Allow the FS98 to take it all in .Yes! It will be busy for a while.
  13. When the busy signal stops, if all went well, your scenery is in FS98.
  14. Click World ..Goto .. Airports... select Sceneries 6.0 and before.

Now you will see your scenery listed under the scenery areas which you can activate by suitable selection on the left.
