1.7 Why does the scenery sometimes rise up under the aircraft?
From FlightSim
Q:
WHY DOES THE SCENERY IN FS98 SOMETIMES FEEL LIKE THE EARTH IS COMING UP UNDERNEATH ME?
A:
I think you may have solved your own puzzle when you said, "the FS98 scenery adjusts itself." Actually what is being adjusted are the basic scenery tiles which underlay what you see. While their heights above sea level are being raised or lowered to conform (somewhat loosely, as we've seen) to actual height, your plane remains at the same altitude you've chosen. So a large increase in the tile height, for example, makes it look as if the ground is coming up toward you, or vice versa. Incidentally, speaking of distance relative to sea level, has anyone noted before that you can't get below sea level in FS? When flying in the Death Valley or Salton Sea areas, you can get down to sea level (by landing, actually) but no lower. Guess this is another necessary limitation in the scenery engine similar to the last half degree North and South Poles barrier.
