Q:

HO HO.. BROUGHT ME FS98 FOR X-MAS BUT IN FSFW95 I HAD MY BASE BUTTONS TO ACTIVATE THE AUTO PILOT NOW IN FS98 NONE OF THEM ZOOM IN AND OUT. THIS IS WITH MY SIDEWINDER PRO JOYSTICK.

All of the buttons can be programmed by going to the Options - Custom Controls menu and selecting the "assignments" tab. A complete list of the commands in FS98 is shown. Scroll to the command you want to assign to a button. Highlight the command. Press the joystick button. Click the assign box and that's it. Go to the next one and repeat the process. This writes lines in the FS98.cfg file that assigns these buttons when the program is fired up. The assignments in FS95 will not change, if you care.

Here's a step-by-step:

  1. Pull down the Options-Custom Controls menu.
  2. Select the "assignments" tab.
  3. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the "commands" list where you will find selections for the "axis" assignments.
  4. Select the axis you want assigned under game device.
  5. Click the "assign" button and go on to the next axis.
  6. Move the joystick or the throttle and it will register for this axis.
  7. When you are all done close the window(s) back to FS98.
  8. Try it out and enjoy.
