11.11 Are there any recommendations for Autoexec.bat and Config.sys for FS98?
From FlightSim
Q:
IS CONFIG.SYS AND AUTOEXEC.BAT NORMALLY USED IN A WIN95 SYSTEM? ANY RECOMMENDATIONS/REFERENCES FOR THEIR USE?
A:
Last bit first, config.sys and autoexec.bat are not needed for Win95 unless certain applications (mostly old DOS types) need special drivers and/or settings. These settings may be such things as 'files=', 'buffers=', path statements, 'set lib=', stuff like that.....
Please note this well (extracted from Microsoft's WIN95 Docs) "In Windows 95, the disk cache is dynamic. You do not need to configure its size as part of system configuration. Because of this, the following types of settings used for Windows 3.x are not required in Windows 95 and should be removed from the configuration files.
Configuration file Configuration Setting To Remove
SMARTDRV settings config.sys SMARTDRV settings (double-buffer driver)
That's the recommendation from Microsoft and is extracted from their Windows 95 Resource Kit.
