11.15 With a right click, what's the difference between "open" and "open with"?
From FlightSim
Q:
WHEN I RIGHT CLICK ON A FILE MY DROP DOWN MENU SOMETIMES SAYS "OPEN" AND SOMETIMES "OPEN WITH". WHAT'S THE DIFFERENCE?
A:
This means you already have a program (probably Notepad) 'associated' with the .cfg extension on your system. Could have been done by some other software during installation.

You may be able to change which program opens the file. I sometimes
switch from wordpad to note pad.
Goto windows explorer
click on view
click on options
click on all files
scroll down till you find cfg
click on cfg
this will now allow you to change the program to no program for opening.

I think that means the system already knows what to use to open the
file. If the icon for the file is a little notepad, that is the
program automatically assigned to that type (.ext) of file. If you
double click the left mouse button on it it will open it in
"Notepad". It can be edited and saved and closed from there.

MS95 associates certain file extensions with certain utilities, .bmp
with Paint, .doc with Word etc. If you click on a file and get an
"open with" box this means MS does not recognize this particular file
extension. You then select which application from the list you
wish to use and MS remembers for next time so that if you click on
the file again it loads straight into the previously selected
application. If you wish to change this you need to go into Explorer
and select VIEW/OPTIONS/FILE TYPES search for the file extension you
wish to change then select remove.
