Q:

AFTER SUCH PAIN AND CRYING I WILL GIVE UP THE INSTALLATION OF FS98. I CAN'T UNDERSTAND WHY EVERY THING FAILS TO INSTALL MY FS98.

A:

Make sure you have the latest drivers for all your hardware:

  • make sure you have the latest DirectX5 drivers from Microsoft
  • make sure you have the latest OLE Automation update from Microsoft
( ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/Oadist2z.EXE )
  • run RegClean to clear out any crap from your registry
( ftp://ftp.microsoft.com/Softlib/MSLFILES/RegCln41.EXE )
    • DON'T RUN REGCLEAN IF YOU HAVE IE 4.0 THOUGH **
  • make sure you have no Config.Sys or Autoexec.bat files (rename them

to Config.sys.old and autoexec.bat.old then re-boot and set up any new hardware that Win95 discovers. If you use Drive space to compress a drive, then you will need a 1-line Config.Sys with the drive space command line in it.

... then try to re-install FS98 !

Also, make sure that you have "uninstalled" any installation of FS98 that may have got written in the registry with all those partial installations. Turn off the automatic load on your CD drive and use the RUN menu choice in the start menu.

I'll bet you have a bad CD. I had to return mine 5 times before I could get a full install. Hope you can do that.
