Q:

WHAT ARE THE ADF AND VOR USED FOR AND HOW DO I USE THEM?

A:

The ADF and VOR are different systems. The ADF is read on it's own indicator. It will point to the ADF station that you tune to. ADF frequencies will be 3 numbers. 269,385 ect. Low frequency in the real world. The VOR is displayed on the OBI indicator for each NAV radio. It's higher in frequency in the vhf range. 118.7, 119.1 etc. Tune a NAV radio to an active VOR station. You will usually see the DME info pop up. You can also id the station in code by pulling ident. Then tune the _/+ on the OBI or use v1,v2 to rotate the indicator until the needle is lined up in the middle with the arrow pointing up for TO. Then you can read the heading to the VOR, engage NAV hold ect. Not much on the choppers, the ATC used in adventures mainly.

Well, first you need to make sure you've tuned either Nav 2 (N + 2 and the "+" or "-" key) if you're using the RMI in the 737 or Lear. And, for the ADF, make sure you've got the right freq. for the NDB in there too...
