3.8 Why do I get an MSCVRTD error when testing a new panel?

Q:
I'VE JUST STARTED WORKING ON A VERY NICE PANEL BITMAP FOR THE MAIN PANEL OF A DC-9 THAT I'M WORKING ON. WHEN I TRIED TO TEST IT IN FS 98, I GOT AN ERROR SAYING THAT IT WAS AN ACCESS ERROR (PER FIRST AID 98) IN USER.EXE AND IT ALSO SAID SOMETHING ABOUT THE MSCVRTD.DLL FILE.
A:
If you are getting a MSCVRTD error then it is possible that one of the .BMP files your panel .CFG file is referencing is not where it is supposed to be. I have found, for instance, that a lot of panel makers use the MINICONTROLS.BMP from the default 737 panel folder, but because I have renamed this folder the above error will occur because the panel .CFG cannot find this .BMP.

Just by chance I stumbled today on the MSCVRTD.DLL error. I use the old file
manager to manage my files in windows 95, since I can't get used to my computer
and I haven't practiced with the windows explorer. I thought the good ol' file
manager was pretty convenient. Well, it turns out that as I was moving the
bmp and gauge files around File manager was renaming them instead of
cessna182.bmp, for example, to cessna~1.bmp!!! Most of my gauges and bmp files
had a shortened file name! No wonder! I will use windows explorer from now on.
Hopefully this helps somebody out there who has the same problem as I had.
