5.10 Need help with the Concorde or VTOL aircraft?
From FlightSim
I'M FAIRLY NEW TO FLIGHT SIM BUT I'M NOT A TOTAL NEWBIE. I CAN TAKE OFF AND LAND (MAYBE NOT ON THE RUNWAY) BUT I STILL HAVE FUN WITH IT.
1. I DOWNLOADED THE BRITISH AIRWAYS CONCORDE FROM THIS SITE. I CAN'T TAKE OFF IN IT, I CAN'T EVEN DO ANYTHING IN IT. FOR SOME REASON FLIGHT SIM STARTS WITH THE ENGINES ON, I'VE NOTICED IN OTHER PLANES THAT I'M DOING 30 KNOTS BEFORE I AM EVEN IN CONTROL OF THE PLANE AND THE PARKING BRAKES TAKE EFFECT. THE CONCORDE JUST CRASHED BEFORE I CAN TAKE CONTROL OF IT. IT'S VERY FRUSTRATING BECAUSE I WANT TO ACTUALLY TAKE OFF IN THE CONCORDE. THE ONLY WAY I CAN FLY IT IT TO TAKE OFF IN ANOTHER PLANE AND CHANGE OVER TO THE CONCORDE IN FLIGHT. IS THIS ANOTHER BUG IN MICROSOFT'S FLIGHT SIM 98 OR COULD IT BE JUST A BAD .AIR FILE?
2. IF YOU MANAGE TO GET THE PLANE HIGHER THAT 99999' THE GAME GOES NUTS. YOUR PRETTY MUCH STUCK THERE. THE PLANE SPINS OUT OF CONTROL BUT YOU NEVER LOOSE ALTITUDE. I THINK THAT'S THE SAME KIND OF BUG AS THE DREADED Y 2K BUG. THE COUNTER ONLY GOES UP TO 99999 FEET AND IT CAN'T RESET TO 0' AGAIN.
3. ANYONE KNOW HOW TO TURN IN A VTOL AIRCRAFT WHILE HOVERING. THE RUDDERS DON'T SEEM TO DO ANYTHING AND SINCE THE ENGINES ARE DIRECTING THE THRUST DOWNWARD, BANKING THE PLANE WITH THE AILERONS ONLY SENDS IT SPINNING OUT OF CONTROL.
1. Press the F1 key to set the throttle to idle and the period key to apply the brakes. This should bring every thing to a halt. The Concorde is rather ambitious for someone who hasn't mastered landing on the runway.
2. If you manage to get your plane higher than 99999' you have reached the twilight zone. You need Space Simulator not Flight Simulator. 40,000 to 50,000 is about all that our atmosphere will support combustion in. Above that you need rocket fuel with LOX tanks. If you have a plane that goes that high, I suggest you look for another, the designer was indulging in fantasy.
3. I haven't tried VTOL planes, but I imagine they're like the FS95 helicopters. They were airplane models modified to rise almost vertically. You have to have Auto coordination turned off, so the rudders move independent of the ailerons. This should show in the Control position indicator.
