5.23 I have a difficult time maintaining a high mach number during a climb.
From FlightSim
I FLY A 757 FOR A MAJOR AIR CARRIER. I HAVE A VERY DIFFICULT TIME MAINTAINING A HIGH MACH # DURING CLIMB AS IN REAL TIME, TYPICALLY .68-70 MACH, FS98 SEEMS TO BLEED OFF TOO QUICKLY AT HIGH FLIGHT LEVELS, WITH VERY HIGH FUEL FLOWS ALSO. ALL IN ALL, I AM SATISFIED WITH THE PROGRAM, I THINK IT'S MUCH LIKE THE SIMS I FLY, RE: IFR PROCEDURES, AND CAN BE MOST HELPFUL FOR ANYONE.
I usually climb the 737-400 or any derivative airplane by using the
autopilot altitude hold and increasing the speed (MACH) gradually to
maintain an N1 of about 94-98%. If the airspeed drops off, I will
decrease the vertical speed until it picks back up. The fuel flow is
high during climb, but the sooner you gain the altitude the sooner
the flow will decrease. The 737 shouldn't go much above FL37. The
newer airplanes can hit FL45 or so.
