5.24 What is the limit for how fast an airplane can go?
From FlightSim
WHAT IS THE LIMIT FOR HOW FAST THE AIRPLANE CAN GO AND WHERE YOU HEAR THE OVER SPEED ALARM IS IN THE .AIR FILE.
Glad that by changing panel you can get 1180kt IAS at 58000 ft. But, I think you should be aware that in real life that would be a colossal indicated speed at that altitude, even for Concorde. If you can bear with me for a small calculation spree , offhand, at 40000 ft(thumbrule) the TAS = Twice the IAS. At 40000 ft if we assume -55 deg Centigrade, Mach 1 = 575 kt TAS . ie 287.5 kt IAS. Hence at 40000 ft itself if you fly at 1180 kt IAS, that would be 2360 kt TAS equivalent to Mach 8.2 (:-O) At 58000 ft it will be much much more. If you want to cruise around at M2.0 at 40000 ft aim for an IAS of 575 kt. At 58000 ft TAS = approx. thrice the IAS. So M 1.0 will be around 192 kt IAS. So, aim for 385 kt IAS at 58000 ft for Mach 2 flight. Right panel for it ! Hey, I am just a novice here in that field. I am sure others will chip in. I just stirred the broth I think..
