5.28 How and when do you use the spoilers?

WHAT ARE SPOILERS, WHEN DO YOU USE THEM, AND WHAT IS THE AUTO ARM (SHIFT + /)?

Spoilers are devices on the wing which are used to slow down. They usually have three positions: retracted, deployed (flight), and deployed (ground). They do not deploy as far in flight as they do on the ground. A sensor in the landing gear can tell whether or not the plane is on the ground; this prevents you from selecting the ground position while still in flight. This also allows the plane to automatically deploy the spoilers on landing when you touchdown. By arming the spoilers you tell the plane to do this. They can be armed during the approach and will decrease your landing roll.
