5.33 Is there a way to land 747 without autopilot?
From FlightSim
Hope you are not trying manual landing with the yaw damper still on though the autopilot is switched off. That is the right most button in AP panel. Then, you surely can land the 747 planes from this forum, manually. Make sure your corrections are in anticipation, since being a heavy, the response is slow in the roll.
- Anticipate and come in with any correction at the earliest.....
- Fly with manual throttle so that trim changes will be aware to you when you open/close throttle.....
- For the flare remember you are sitting way high. Get used to the perspective, by looking out when you are stationary on the rwy before takeoff......
- Rudder is needed only for engineout or cross wind conditions. I am landing these now, without rudder since I have not yet connected them. So, it can be done with practice of course......
If you can look at the rate of descent, and keep 600-700 ft/mt on finals and reduce it to 100-150 ft/mt during the flare, and reduce full thrust when you are at the correct perspective height, you can do it. If you want to practice landings only, at any airfield, first let the FS98 do an autopilot approach and when you are about 10 ILS DME, pause the FS98, and save the flight from that position as " ILS Practice" or some such thing. If you want you may note down the Lat/Long, ht, spd ,ILS freq, Course selected etc for your reference from World/airport/goto exact location option. After each landing, use reset, to get back to final approach position, for the next ILS. Well ! That is what we do when we instruct on the regular 747 simulator as well, to save on costly sim time.
