5.38 Why is the Acton VOR near Dallas missing from FS98?
From FlightSim
I'm not a Texan, or a pilot, (Boy, that really puts me low on the list.), but I've read here in messages waaaay back there that they fairly recently closed some of the VORs in the DFW area and replaced then with a four-corners scheme. These would be Glen Rose 115.00 JEN s.w. of DFW, Bowie 112.40 UKW n.w. of DFW, Coyboy 116.20 CVE n.e. of DFW and Cedar Creek 114.80 CQY s.e. of DFW.

In October, 1996 the DFW airspace was completely revamped due to the addition of
runway 17c at DFW international. Acton is no longer functional and these
changes were made in fs98. The new vor in that basic area is Glen Rose (JEN)
at 115.0. DFW 117.0 Millsap 117.7 and Cowboy 116.3 are the only three that
stayed the same.

Just to clear it up a little--the four cornerpost idea is not new, they just
moved them out about 30 miles to give the controllers more room to squeeze
everyone in and to get the departures out. DFW is now the busiest airport in
the world (in terms of operations). And the new cornerposts are Bowie (NW),
Bonham (NE), Cedar Creek (SE) and Glen Rose (SW). Cowboy is just east of the
airport and Ranger is just west.
