WHEN I GO TO "AIRCRAFT SETTINGS, NAVIGATION" ON MY MENU, THE "LOCK TO ILS/LOC FOR LANDING APPROACH" IS ALWAYS GRAYED OUT. WHY?

You need the ILS information for all of the airports that have them. I suggest that you download and install and study NAV 1.8 here on this site. It is free and one of the neatest utilities going for FS98. It will allow you to easily build databases of as much or as little of your scenery as you choose and display the navigational and airport data on a world map. This can be zoomed down to the individual airport level.

ILS beacons are shown as long narrow arrows pointing at the runways and the program will show a window with the identifiers. It will also supply detail info such as the approach heading. VORs and NDBs are shown, at your option, also. If it is installed properly with the driver program included, the present location of your FS98 airplane and the heading is shown also. This can be run in conjunction with FS98 and accessed by task switching. Turn off "Pause on Task Switching" in the options menu and you can see your airplane making progress across the map.
