7.16 How do I get my Monster 3d working with FS98?

Q:
HOW DO I GET MY MONSTER 3D WORKING WITH FS98?
A:
Go to Options-Preferences-Display-Display options-Accelerator menu. There you should find a block with the display adapter listed. selecting it should bring down options of three adapters. The Monster should be there. Select it and check all the lower options except "8 bit MIT Mapping and close the menu. Now when you press Alt-Enter the screen will shift to a full screen display with the 3D effects.

You must install the monster drivers and then for best results
re-install directx 5.0 from the msfs98 install. then you must go to
the MSFS video setup option from the pull down menus in MSFS. there
is an option for picking what video driver to use in full screen
mode. it has a drop down list that defaults to your 2d card. if your
2d card is all that shows then you did not install tour monster
correctly or your computer doesnt recognize it. if it is there you
must choose it and then remember that you only get 3d in full screen
mode.

Make sure you go into Hardware Acceleration and choose the 3DFX
choice. Check all boxes except 8 bit. OK your way out and hit Alt +
Enter to run in full screen. FS98 only runs in full screen with the
Monster.

Another way is to uninstall FS98 and then install your monster. When
you reinstall FS98 it will already be aware that the monster exists
and the option for 3dfx should be available. I had this problem when
I retrofitted a a righteous after purchasing FS98.
BTW do not let Microsoft overwrite your sound and video drivers when installing direct x even if the installation program says that they need updating. More often then not you will end up with a very badly set up system. Far better to keep your original drivers and after everything has been set download and install the latest updates.
