Q:

I AM CONSIDERING ON SUBSCRIBING TO A FLIGHT SIM MAGAZINE, JUST WANTED SOME YA'S AND NA'S..ON SOME OF THE ONES ON THE MARKET, IF THERE WORTH THE MONEY, OH..SUCH AS MICROWINGS..OR FULL THROTTLE,...IF ANY OF YOU HAVE A SUBCRIPTION TO ANY, SOME COMMENTS WOULD BE APPRECIATED EITHER WAY.

A:

I subscribed to Full Throttle for a couple of years, but I've let it lapse now. Since I've started participating in this forum, I've learned a lot more than the magazine ever taught me. The magazine was always really behind the times by the time I got it too. I heard Full Throttle was bought out by Abacus the other day. I don't know what impact that will have on the magazine or web site. I subscribed to Microwings about 9 months ago. I received one outdated magazine as acknowledgement of the subscription and 6 months later I got another. It's a better magazine than Full Throttle, but with that kind of service, forget it!

Boy am I gonna catch it for this one!! :( Save your money if you're thinking about either of the two you mentioned. Microwings (I thought) was a monthly periodical. Turns out they just put out an issue whenever they feel like it. You get 12 months of membership, and maybe 4 issues - REAL EXPENSIVE! Wait till they sell off the back issues cheap.

Full Throttle is, IMHO, a magazine for very rank novices and absolute beginners. They have great technical articles such as "How To Turn On Your Computer and Start Flight Sim" - Yawn! It's sorta like the Sierra magazine of the flight sim world.

There is a very good publication out called "Computer Pilot" published down under, (Australia), I understand. I thoroughly enjoy every issue of CP and highly recommend it. Only problem is it takes a bit to hit the stores here in the US. Subscription may be quite a bit faster.

In all honesty, that's about it - far as I know. Maybe someone else will chip in a good one, soon as they get through flaming me about Microwings!!!  :)
