Can you give me advice on getting the Nvidia 8600GT w/512 DDR2, PCI-E for use with FSX?

If you're looking for a mid to high end DX9 card it is pretty good. However, if you are looking at using it for DX10 (you didn't mention if you have Vista or not) it isn't going to do well. For DX10 a Radeon 2900 or GeForce 8800GTS would be better.
If you want to run FSX with Vista and DX10 you should move up to the 8800 and the GTX 750 is the way to go but at least the 8800 512. You can save on a lower end card but you will be disappointed in the performance.
