- For an average person, the distance from the tip of the thumb to the first knuckle (where the thumb bends) is about 10 nautical miles. (Mine is about 10 statute miles - Ed.).
- For an average person, the width of one finger is about 5 nautical miles (mine is 5 NM - Ed.).
