Traffic pattern

A traffic pattern (British and others call it a circuit) is an orderly path around an airport, which aircraft are requested to use. generally at a specific, published altitude (except on departure leg, base leg and final approach, where you're climbing or descending).

The picture below is a typical left hand pattern described by the FAA.
