Does Acceleration/SP2 require a clean FSX install without the SP1 patch?
From FlightSim
Full Question: Okay, i'm getting a new computer which is shipping to me later today and I was wondering about what to do about the patches for FSX. Should I install FSX and SP1 before acceleration comes out? Will Acceleration/SP2 require a new clean install without the SP1 patch installed? I am just curious. Even if it requires a clean install, I will probably just install FSX and SP1 anyways just because I can't wait a whole week without FSX especially since I am getting my new computer.
SP2 will require SP1.
"Acceleration will be available in late October. FSX-SP2 will be available sometime after Acceleration Pack and before Christmas. Edit:Acceleration includes SP2 bits, and SP1 and thus does not require SP1 to be pre-installed as there is room on the DVD for it, but the downloadable SP2 does require FSX-SP1 to be installed. As I have previously stated, SP2 will include DX9 fixes as well as DX10 support. So with the release of SP2, Aces will have fulfilled its commitment to 2 updates for FSX RTM customers in 2007."
You can do whatever makes you happy. If you are going to be waiting any length of time before getting Acceleration, then go ahead and install SP1. Acceleration will install SP1 if you haven't already. Acceleration contains both SP1 and SP2, so you can install it over FSX RTM or RTM + SP1. If you uninstall it, FSX reverts to your previous setup, so if you had SP1 installed, that's what you'll end up with after uninstall. So:
RTM + Acceleration => RTM, SP1, SP2 RTM + SP1 + Acceleration => RTM, SP1, SP2
either case will work. The only difference being where you'd be after uninstalling Acceleration.
For SP2 alone, you need to have SP1 installed first.
RTM + SP1 + SP2
