How can I change the spot view quickly?

I usually fly in spot plan mod so I can orient myself easily while flying my helicopter on my laptop using my keyboard. FS2000 has changed how the SHIFT-Arrow keys change the view. In FS98 SHIFT Arrow would look from the side at 90 degrees from the spot plan. In FS2000 the change in view is graduated slowly with multiple key presses.

Does anyone know what changes to make to make this work like it did in FS98 short of executing FS98?

So far as I know, no one has found the view mechanism you're asking about. I, too, miss the "snap" view change mode from spot view.
