How do you look down from the plane or scan 360 with a joystick hat button?

I don't know of a "hat button" way to go, but the keyboard commands for panning aren't that hard. In cockpit view,

  • Shift-Enter pans down (360° if needed)
  • Shift-Backspace pans up (again clear around)
  • Ctrl-Shift-Enter pans to the right (all the way)
  • Ctrl-Shift-Backspace pans to the left (in a full circle or more)
  • Ctrl-Spacebar centers the forward view again.

In the spot plane view, the above all work, but the keypad keys with NumLock on or in combination with the Shift key, allow you to "pan" the view point, up, down and all around too. A good way to sight-see!

Correction from Nick how to do it with the "HAT BUTTON":

Go in FS2000 to Options/Controls/Assignments and select in the table the line "Pan View left". Then push the button "Change Assignment" and move the hat button on the joystick to the left; in the joystick-column the text "Button 39" shows up. Then click OK. Next select the line Pan View right, move the hat button right and the text "Button 35" appears. Click OK. Do the same with the lines Pan View up and Pan View down. Set all the "repeat scales" in these lines to full. That's it and you got all the wonderfull, 360 degrees view movements in your hand, either in cockpit view and in spot plane view.
