Q:

I would like to have more louder touch down sound. in soundconfig file most of volume parameters are set at 10000. Can I change this values, and will it make a difference?

A:

I have covered this subject 10 or fifteen times on this forum over thepast few months and I will approach it again. (So I add it to the faq; faq writers comment) If you will go into the main sound folder of FS2K, you will find many .wav files with the word "touch" as part of their total name. These files are the touchdown sounds, not to be confused with the "roll" sounds. You cannot hear the "touch" sounds when the aircraft hits the bricks. You can, however, hear the "roll" sounds. Many people think the sounds they are hearing are the touchdown sounds but in reality are only the roll sounds. There is no way of increasing the sound, that I can figure out, within the sound .cfg file. Also I have tried editing the "touch" .wav files to make them louder but all it does is distort them. Before the FS2K patch was released I wrote to MS in an attempt to havethis area corrected, along with the "wind" file in the King Air. MS didn'tfix either problem. I fixed the "wind" file myself but cannot figure out howto fix the "touch" sounds. Apparently no one else can either, including Microsoft.>>>Happy simming.>>

Update: Download configpb.zip from flightsim.com (where else?), it will fix this problem.

Name: configpb.zip Size: 654,746 Downloads: 1653 FS2000 Jet Sound Upgrade. Includes a modified .cfg file that adds the touchdown sounds for the default Boeing 737, 777 and other 3rd party aircraft. Also adds the wind sound that gets louder and louder once you go faster. Includes some nice replacement sounds for replacing some default sounds. By Peter Binamira.
