****TURN ON "WORD WRAP" TO VIEW THIS TEXT PROPERLY****
Thank you for downloading "Altiports of the French Alps - FS2004" by Guy Nemoz. Please visit Guy Nemoz's site for more details and other scenery addons particular to this scenery. http://www.vf-air.com/ This site is in French, but one should make all attempts to visit there, and if required, use an Online Translator (such as Systran) to assist you in navigating through this absolutely brilliant website. ==================================INTRODUCTION==== ============================== First, a definition: An "altiport" is a high-mountain airstrip, generally with a steep inclined grade from one end of the airstrip to the other. Its runway is composed of such substances as asphalt or concrete. An "altisurface" has the same physical characteristics as an "altiport", except it's airstrip material is composed of dirt, grass, gravel, etc. The scenery pack you downloaded includes Guy Nemoz's altiports for FS2004, including renditions of Courchevel, Meribel, Megeve, Alpes d'Huez, La Rosiere, and Valloire Bonnenult. Mr Nemoz has provided a few real-world photos of the area, and they are included in this pack. PLEASE NOTE, these photos remain the Legal Property of Guy Nemoz, so please use them with the caveat that any breach of his property rights thereof will be dealt with by some good legal eagles who specialize in the kind of thing. I could provide a little ditty on each airstrip included in this simple, but beautiful, pack but all I would really be doing is gathering up information and detailing, in another way, some other more capable person's words. Therefore, for realworld information on this airstrips please go to the links below. These links are in French. The majority of these links also include very important charts for each field, so, if you would like to fly these virtual altiports for your virtual mountain pilots licence I strongly suggest you get real familiar with these links. Courchevel -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/courchevel.html L'Alpe d'Huez -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/huez.html Megève -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/megeve.html Méribel -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/meribel.html La Rosière -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/larosiere.html Valloire -- http://www.pilotlist.org/montagne/valloire.html ==================================INSTALLATION==== ============================== [READ THOROUGHLY AND SLOWLY suggested] (1) Uncompress this pack and move all files to your home directory for MSFS9. Thus, if your FS9 is included in "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" then move the uncompressed Addon Scenery Scenery to "C:\Program Files\Microsoft Games\Flight Simulator 9" Now, you just included the following in your FS9 directory: --- Addon Scenery directory contains a "Scenery", which contains the Afcad2 files for this pack. --- Addon Scenery directory also contains a directory called "EUR-FRA-Altiports19-GNemoz", which further contains a diretories called "AltiEnhancements", "AltiRelief", and "Realscreens", and a copy of this document you are now reading, along with some screenshots I made from within FS9. --- Scenery\EURW\Scenery, which contains two (2) very important MSDos batch files ("altiport19-install.bat" & "altiport19-uninstall.bat") and a replacement file, "FL949150bouchetrou.hold", that I will address shortly. (2) Go to your "FS9"\Scenery\EURW\Scenery" directory and search for "altiport19-install.bat". Click and run this file. What this file does is rename the default "FL949150.bgl" to "FL949150.org-hold-for-altip19relief" and renames the "FL949150bouchetrou.hold" to "FL949150bouchetrou.bgl" Very simple. PLEASE NOTE: this procedure assumes you did not run another scenery addon which requires the default or created a modified "FL949150.bgl". If your situation requires this just mentioned scenario please contact ME and I will see how we can resolve this issue. {WHEN REMOVING THIS SCENERY: go back into your "FS9"\Scenery\EURW\Scenery" directory and search for "altiport19-uninstall.bat": Click and Run it, and will replace the changed bgl for the default bgl. (3) Using whatever method you use to add FS2004 scenery addons add and declare {FS9}\Addon Scenery\EUR-FRA-Altiports19-GNemoz\AltiEnhancements {FS9}\Addon Scenery\EUR-FRA-Altiports19-GNemoz\AltiRelief You want the "AltiEnhancements" to be above "AltiRelief" in the "scenery.cfg". So your if your "scenery.cfg" has 100 entries, let's say, you want "AltiEnhancements" to be entry 100, with "AltiRelief", entry 99. Should this all seem confusing to you drop me a line ( mountainpilot_fs@yahoo.fr ) and I will do my level-headed fsgeek best to walk you through it. ![]() (3) I strongly suggest you use Eliot Rogers' little utility, SCANAFD, to search for duplicate Afcad2 files, which could cause problems within FS2004. His website is here: http://www.nwlink.com/~erog . The Afcad2 files used in this scenery have the following suffix, *__AltiportsFrance_GNemoz.bgl, and must be retained. (4) This scenery was only tested using a "TERRAIN_MAX_VERTEX_LEVEL=19", as indicated in the "fs9.cfg". If you changed the TMVL to 21 there can be guarantee that you will see the scenery properly. If you have no idea what I am speaking about, that is even better; you will be all set. ===============================GETTING THERE==================================== There are three (3) methods of placing your aircraft at the three fields. [1] Guy Nemoz's preferred method (a) Using the FS9 taskbar, choose "World" / "Go to airport" / "Search addon scenery" (1) for Alpes d'Huez select Scenery Area - "LFHU-Alpes d'Huez", Airport Name - "pente au 150" (2) for Coruchevel select Scenery Area - "LFLJ-Courchevel", Airport Name - "Piste en pente au 45" (3) for La Rosiere select Scenery Area - "La Rosiere-LF330", Airport Name - "La Rosiere" (4) for Megeve select Scenery Area - "LFHM-Megeve", Airport Name - "pente" (5) for Meribel select Scenery Area - "LFKX-Meribel", Airport Name - "piste en pente au 334" (6) for Valloire select Scenery Area - "Valloire-LF3332", Airport Name - "Valloire" (b) Tower View is not correct when using this method. [2] The more standard FS2004 method (which uses Afcad2 files): (a) Using the FS9 taskbar, choose "World" / "Go to airport" / "Search default scenery" (1) for Alpes d'Huez select: Alpes d'Huez, Altiport Henri Ginaud [LFHU, Alpes d'Huez, l'Isère, France] Runway 27 for suggested Take-Off, Runway 9 is available. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD (2) for Courchevel select: Courchevel [LFLJ, Courchevel 18, Savoie, France] Runway 5 for suggested Take-Off, Runway 23 is available. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD *** IF YOU CHOOSE "Active Runway" for this you will be placed near the airstrip but near enough. Until I can find a fix please do not use "Active Runway" for LFLJ. (3) for La Rosiere select: La Rosiere, Altiport de [LF30, La Rosiere, Savoie, France] Runway 16 is the only Take-Off Starting Location. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD {PLEASE NOTE: the Official APT ID code is LF7330, but FS9/Afcad2 only allows 4-digit ID codes} (4) for Megeve: Megeve, Altiport de [LFHM, Megeve, Haute-Savoie, France] Runway 34 for suggested Take-Off Runway 16 is available. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD (5) for Meribel: Meribel, Altiport de [LFKX, Meribel, Savoie, France] Runway 33 is the only Take-Off Starting Location. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD (6) for Valloire Bonnenuit: Valloire Bonnenuit, Altiport [LF32, Valloire, Savoie, France) Runway 9 is the only Take-Off Starting Location. TOWER VIEW IS ACCURATELY SELECTED USING THIS METHOD {PLEASE NOTE: the Official APT ID code is LF7330, but FS9/Afcad2 only allows 4-digit ID codes} ALSO NOTE: the Afcad2 Runway Start Locations are not listed as RUNWAYS in the AF2 file, therefore these files are not set up for artificial intelligence (a.i.) traffic. The are no directions from ATC from the parking to the runways, and vice versa, therefore you will have to explore the runway take-off location yourself. ![]() [3] The third, and maybe easier, method, is by using the Situation files (FLT) included. There are Summer and Winter time flight situations for each field, however, there is no weather included, so weather dynamics are clear. Default C172. Crash Detection is ON in these situations; however, unless you know what you are doing you should turn Crash Detection OFF. Tower View is correctly set. To use this method: use the FS9 Taskbar and select "Flights" / "Select a Flight" / "Altiports - Guy Nemoz", then which ever flight situation you want. ===================================NOTAMS========= ========================== I, Don Lively, am not the creator of this scenery; I am just the "messenger", the packager, although I did a considerable amount of beta-testing and I generated the very simple Afcad2 files included. Please note: these are not easy airstrips from which to take off or land. With Crash-detection ON in SPOTVIEW I have experienced a Building Crash at a couple fields. Mr Nemoz has toned down Building Crash sensitivity, but one could experience it if one plays too much with SPOTVIEW near buildings, etc. This is just a gentle caveat. Suggested mountain flying aircraft for this area of the globe would be the Piper 180 Super Cub, RobinDR400, Jodel D-140, Maule, Zenith, Pilatus PC6 Porter, Bellanca Scout, or Cessna L-19 Birddog, all of which are available for FS2004 as either freeware or payware. However, your default C172/182 will also work well with these fields, providing you really know your aircraft and can manage it properly for high-altitude/mountain flying. Cessna C172R's have been seen operating at some of the airstrips in the real-world, in fact, a C172R is aeroclub aircraft at one of these real-world airstrips. Again, I strongly advise the user to visit Mr. Nemoz's website at http://www.vf-air.com/ (French only) for some real-world and simulated altiport and altisurface information and aviation matters. If you require further assistance with this package you can contact me at: mountainpilot_fs@yahoo.fr Thank you, again. Don Lively mountainpilot_fs@yahoo.fr [this is a French email site, but I am English-speaking; at least I try to convince myself that I am. ]Guy Nemoz http://www.vf-air.com/ |
