Has anyone else started experiencing some ads which crash Netscape 4.79? This is quite annoying. I wonder if these ad writers realize they are not Netscape 4.79 compatible?

Plainsman;
You're not alone. We use Netscape at the office (no choice) and
I've been getting a dozen crashes a day all this week at train-sim.com. Same error message. No problem with Explorer at home. Aren't you sick to death of ads and ad issues on the 'net?

LAST EDITED ON May-24-02 AT 03:55PM (EDT)[p]I've been getting Netscape crashes for about a week now, both at home and at work. It didn't occur to me until now, the crashes were only occuring while on train-sim.com. In addition to crashes, at work (NT 4.0) this morning, Netscape would simply exit to Windows for no reason. IE5.5 has worked fine during this time. I uninstalled Netscape at work this morning. Maybe I'll reinstall it and wait to see what happens with the ads. I prefer it to IE because it is much faster. Unfortunately, there are a few websites which will not work with Netscape so I still have to use IE occasionally. Wonder if "Ad-Aware" would be of any help here?
NELS!! Are you paying attention, here??

Hi,
I keep crashing about 2 in 3 times when I try and access the start page of forums.flightsim.com I can't remember the exact name of the error, but it has something to do with a .DLL file performing an error, Netscape 4.79 then closes...
This is kwk100, and I'm 10-10 on the side

I'd make a complaint about the ad (it happens to me too) except for one thing: how to identify which one is the problem? The ad that causes the crash...well, the browser crashes so you cannot see what ad it is.
To make things worse, I just had Internet Explorer crash in a similar manner so there may be an ad that causes trouble there too :-(
I've not been very impressed with the skill level of the ad designers. We have to complain frequently about one problem or another.

Well, this certain explains what happened to me last night.....decided to download Netscape and give it a try.....much to my surprise it kept crashing, especially when I came on this site........Didn't know it was because of the ads.......Anyway, got rid of it..........I don't use IE either but a browser called Smart Explorer, which uses the IE engine but is much faster, has a popup blocker built into it and has tabs for each page you are one so you can just click the tab to get to a page that you have opened, or you can right click on the tab to close the page........Very nice, clean program.....I highly recommend it........Has skins too..Never had a problem since I have been using it these past two months.........Only reason I wanted to try Netscape out is that downloaders won't work on Smart Explorer, but they are working on Version 6.1 which will correct the program......
Just for your info....and thanks for letting me know what was wrong.......thought it was my machine........

I don't know where you guys have been, but Netscape has been crashing for me (and my users at work) for years. Yes, ads are a main culprit, because the problem seems to most often be with Javascript, which many ads contain. I've noticed that since Netscape version 4.anything certain Javascript code will cause the browser to either completely crash, or semi-freeze. The latter is particularly annoying, because it looks like the internet connection has been dropped. The status bar will go back and forth like it's searching for the page, but it won't come up. Close the browser, reopen, and try it again, the page still won't come up. That's because a process has frozen and will continue to run even after you close the browser--this process will "block" any other attempts to access the internet by Netscape.
This has been my experience in 5 years of working with Netscape as a systems administrator. As much as we have to continually patch Internet Explorer, I have begun to switch all of our machines to it because at least it works most of the time for our users.

I have used netscape for more than five years and never had any problems till about a week ago. It is faster than IE nad I like the interface. I went to Version 7, but it has a lot of useless bloat and is much slower, but it does not crash.

Hey
I'm glad it's not just me. I've been getting crashes for about a week now, while at train sim.com. Tonight I got a crash when I clicked on the Train Simulator forum.

I get crashes some times with IE 5.01, occasionally when I try to get to this forum, Norton Crashguard tells me there was a problem, I ignored it once but my computer froze.
What I find annoying is those ads that aren't just images, they are mouseover or flash or something, and that slows down my browsing so much, because they are sooooooo slow to load.

Hi all,
I use IE6 and have'nt experianced any crashes on this site yet. (should'nt have said that!!!!). I don't use Netscape but I entered the first part of the error message into google and found this page:
http://home.att.net/~cherokee67/nspecerrnsexe.html
It has some infromation on the general Netscape.exe has caused an error in.... message.
By attempting some of the ides on thsi page, you could damage your computer so don't do them unless you know what you are doing. I am not responsible for any damage you do to your computer.
If this isn't the particular problem enter the first part of the error message in the search ar www.google.com There are many pages there.
