Shine is commonly done with the help of implied shine on the bitmap and some of the settings in the "S" file but it's not totally based on a material type, so what you did will not get you the effect you are looking for. A method has been described in this forum, you might try searching for it.
Also, since your home page is in hungarian and since it seems that very few people who speak it come here, you may not get many visits... :-(

You should contact Chris L. his mail you can find on his site www.christrains.com. He add shiny effects to his last work. Great work guys I must say that you are wery talented I like your locos especially the last one. I hope that you also add transparent windows to your previous works, which are also superb. I all hungarian locos because I'm living nearby (in Poland) as a childe I was in Hungary. I have to admit that your country is beautiful. Keep up great work.

Make sure you have specular lighting turned on.

LAST EDITED ON Jun-09-02 AT 03:36PM (EDT)[p]If your looking for that effect on the side of a locomotive, the only way I've found is to simulate a shine in the skin, but as far as the solidhishine, from what I've noticed in building my own loco's is that it only seems to affect the top portion of the shape, but the more rounded curves you put on a shine part the more effect it appears to show. Also try different colors. Some seem to show the effect more than others. Of course this is only my opinion

The specular thing can be hacked within the .s file. This is an excellent description of how to do it, posted on the UKTrainSim forums:

(URL should be all in one line)

You can download a program called shapefile manager by (Decapod) from uktrainsim.com that will allow you to apply several texture affects to your models via modifications to the s file also you can compress and decompress the s files with this program.

The other way I've found to easily get this effect is by using GMAX. In your multi_sub menu you can set your skins so they have different types of lighting effects to them from dull to a very polished look.
