How are you Nels?Regardless of the fact that the New Haven didn't have GP-38's,I'm going to dl your's anyway because it looks great. But how about a Conrail GP-38 for use on the NE Corridor? That's prototypical.
it would be prototipical, before the selling of the north east corridor to Amtrak from Conrail. A Conrai loco would be pretty cool, and i've been working on one, going is sllllllllooooooowwwwwww though.
cya trackside!

That would be a good choice. I even think I've seen a screen shot of a Conrail loco, so it may be that someone has done it already.
One problem, though, is that the GP-38 is difficult to repaint because of the mapping of the textures onto the 3D surfaces. The way it's done prevents some paint schemes from being done correctly. Even my New Haven version is not really the way I wanted it to be.
Something like this, maybe? ;)

Very nice,can we have it?
Sure. Still have a few details to finish before it's done though.

Until we get a separate upload point set up for this site, anyone who wants their files in the Train-Sim.Com file library can upload them to FlightSim.Com and I'll make sure they get copied over. For details on uploading, please see:

I've toned down the blue a bit. Looking at the picture just now I realized the logo on the side is too small. Will fix and upload probably tomorrow evening after work.

Due to the way the textures display within the game, making the logo bigger causes other problems. Uploading it now.

because of age of a conrail now it would have to look pretty weathered which would look good lashed up with say csx or ns.
same with chessie equipment.

Nels,
Posted a question to you over in the MSTS library that I should probably have posted here. I started using Paint Shop Pro yesterday for the first time. Thing is I can't figure out how to paint and not lose the details like grab irons and doors. I seem to be painting on top of the design instead of changing the color. Any help would be greatly appreciated as I'm working on the SD40 and GP38 in IC colors.

Sorry, but I can't help you there...never used Paint Shop Pro. I use PhotoShop and I'm hardly an expert at that even.
David,
Are you familiar with how to use layers in PSP (at one point I had close to 30 layers on my Conrail repaint)? Here's how I do it in PSP...
1. Open the .bmp or .tga file
2. Create a new layer to paint on (I don't ever paint on the original "background" layer. I use it for reference/proper placement of logos, etc)
3. For example the first layer I create is the base coat of paint. I will then either hide it, or reduce the opacity so I can see through it.
4. For each new item (ie. doors, logos, grab handles, dirt/grease, etc) I will create a new layer and do whatever needs to be done. For the doors, I simply traced the doors on the original background layer onto one of my layers. By putting each item on its own layer its easy to either change things, or move them around.
5. When everything's finished, save the file as a .psp file first (so that you still have the unique layers to edit in the future), and then save it as either the .bmp or .tga file (with a single merged layer)
6. Convert the files to the .ace format.
That's what works for me...hope it helps. There's a pretty good tutorial at www.fingermouse.net/aircraft that explains this process in much better detail for repainting aircraft. Might want to check it out.

the prob is that it doesn't come with the ENG file and the other ones, i have tried all night to make new eng files for the -9s and a gp 38 and have not had any luck. I keep getting the program can not read the ENG file, what does that mean?
Helppppppppp?

I would REALLY like to have your PSP file with layers for the GP38. Would you please post it?
Thanks

Thanks for the reply. After digging through the help files and such, found a way. I'm using a replace color tool. Someone suggested using layers and I guess I will try that also, though I'm not sure how yet.
I really wish MSTS wouldn't have used the same poly in places. On the SD40 the back of the engines is one poly mirrored. That means if put a road number back there I get 6030 0306 (3 and 6 would be mirrored). Other poly placments will keep me from getting an exact duplicate even on the IC all black engines. They had white on the edges above the trucks. Well those polys go elsewhere.

I have just started mine, I should have it ready to go by mid week. That's packed up and all you'll have to do is make a directory for it and then select it from your consist editor. E-mail me if you would like to see what I have so far. Can you say, darn near photo? I finally figured out how to make cars too. I have a Conrail box car and a Conrail Gondola. Norfolk Southern and Union Pacific Box cars also. E-mail me if interested in any...
