I can only guess that you're still loading the original GP-38. Before you can use the new locomotive you need to make at least one consist that uses it as the lead engine. It should then show up as a separate listing on the pull down list of available locomotives.

Nels, are your instructions saying then that we have to leave the sim and go into the editor section to make the initial consist? i have only looked in the editor area so far. and can i assume that we go into the activity editor, open an activity and make a consist to add to that activity? Am i inventing a new name here called a"slowbie" which is me with editors and hacking?

got it! whew, i'm exhausted. as with other questions being answered here's another. the new haven shows up in maria's pass. how could you just have new haven and csx on nec and bnsf and say sp on maria's.

The consist editor is pretty confusing...

It's part of the activity editor, but you don't actually have to use a consist only with one specific activity. Once you've made a consist you can use it at any time on any route in explore mode. Consists are always associated with the lead locomotive. If you create a consist with the New Haven GP-38 select your route, then select that locomotive from the pull down box and then use the consist pull down box and you will see the consist you made.

Yes...but how do you make a new concist? Can anyone post a FAQ detailing how to create a new activity where one would then add the new consist etc. This is all very mysterious to a newbie!

This has been answered before, but it seems to be a common point of confusion... The consist editor is part of the activity editor, so start with that. Then create a new activity (but you won't actually need to save it). One the right side of the activity editor you'll see a section on player resources; click on the "New" button to create a new player resource, which is what a consist is. This will now finally let you start up the consist editor; look for the "New" button under the consist section of the new box that popped up. Once you get into the editor and think you'll find it quite easy to use.

Thank you for explaining this again...I had to be certain that I was doing everything correctly. You see I downloaded your New Haven repainted GP-38 locomotive and unzipped all files into a directory under Trainsets\NewHaven. I then copied the sounds folder and the GP38 folder into the newl\y created NewHaven folder. I started the activity editor and did exactly as you just described ( although I admit I had no idea where or what I was doing ). I get the part where you say that I should be able to look at the available engines under the service editor/consist window and I can't find the NewHaven engine. What name am I actually looking for anyway? Where have I gone wrong? Thanks for helping.

OK, as happens so often I find the solution after posting my question. I discovered that I need to select "new" player service and "new" consist, rather than just clicking the arrow on the consist box as this just brings up already defined consists instead of creating a new one. OK...got it. BTW I read in the forum that there was supposed to be a CSX skin somewhere but I can't find it in the downloads?
