I looked at the topics here and didn't see one that tells me how to add skins to MSTS. I also have not seen any instructions with the skins I download. Someone want to walk me (and others) through it?

Well I'm no expert at the painting part. Download Nels GP38 and in his readme file he explains real well how to do things. In the sample directory there is all the .bmp and .tga files for the rolling stock and engines.
What I'm doing for the IC repaint I am doing is this. I take the us2bnsfsd40a and us2bnsfsd40b files and copy them and rename them icsd40a and icsd40b respectively. I then repaint these. I then do the makeace step creating back us2bnsfsd40a and us2bnsfsd40b ace files. These ace files I put in my ICSD40 folder. I created the ICSD40 folder as a copy of the SD40 folder and added the cab and sound folders from the GP38 so I could make it driveable. Follow Nels steps on how to turn a AI engine into a driveable one.
What that gives you is an AI engine in the BNSF livery and a driveable SD40 in the IC livery(or yours).
Hope this helps
