OK..
I've edited the BMP amd TGA files. and am ready to start the compile. Lets say I'm using the standard Dash-9 loco, but with a
new skin. Lets call it ABC. So now I have ABC.bmp and ABC.tga.
I've renamed and edited (and saved as Unicode) the .s .sd and .eng files. These are all in an ABC sub-folder in the TRAINSET folder. I've copied over the DASH-9 folder as well..
What should my ace files be named?.. Do I use the usd2dash9col1
and col2 filenames? Do I need the rest of the dash-9 files (dash9.ace,loco.ace, us2dash9.ace, etc.) in the subfolder as well? If someone can give me a good detailed explanation of what file names MUST be present and where , I'd be happy to start writing the FAQ.. Any info on how the texture mapping is laid out would help as well, so I van have a go at skin templates..
Thanks,
Harold

Since you have the ABC subfolder and .eng, .sd, and .s already dealt with, all you need is to make the ace files. Use the same names as already in the ABC subfolder. So do, 'makeace abc.bmp us2dash9.ace' and then 'makeace abc.tga us2dash92.ace'. Place these in the ABC subfolder replacing the existing ones. Now go make a consist using your new engine and off you go.

BTW, I make my consist before repainting with the new engine name. That way as I repaint, I can see how it looks in MSTS. I found that shades between Paint Shop Pro and MSTS are different as well as with reused polys, colors show up where I don't want them.
