Hello all...
I have been messing around with trying to do a Boston & Maine skin for the GP38. I'm using PaintShop Pro 7. How do you know where certain things are like the handrails? When I had painted the sides blue, the hand rails also came out blue. Has any one figured out a template as to where the different textures are in the BMP & TGA files?
Thanks...

Arghhhh...this is driving me crazy. I just found out where the side of the steps is but I still have not found out where the railing are in the BMP yet. Does anyone have a clue? Someone must...there are many skins out there including a CSX one with yellow handrails.

The mapping on the default GP38 is a mess...various parts of the bitmap appear in multiple places on the final locomotive. It really limits what you can do.

The handrails seem to come from the one of the sides. I've thought about creating a multicolor locomotive just to see where the colors end up.

Robert had posted a paint-by-numbers GP-38, but I'm not sure where the file went off to. A search in the older posts on the MS board will probably find it. I did save a few screen shots he had posted and for the handrails on the rear it pull off of both the side and the end for random sections.
I am trying a LIRR GP38 in the yellow and blue scheme. It is a very simple scheme but even so I am having problems. There is a small US flag just in front of the rear air intake and bits of the flag are showing up in the handrails, fan housings and the trim on one of the small air intakes. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason for it. I wish the designers had thought about 3rd party designers when they were doing their mapping.

Here is the ling to the paint-by-numbers .bmp and .tga files. You need to be signed up with a MS passport to access it. http://www.msnusers.com/TrainSimulatorFanSite/msgattachments/274

Hi,
I'm in process of painting a B/M boxcar - the OLD ones with the massive B-M logo on the right side.
They will make a nice pairing.
Thanks for your good work.
