This picture was made using DLG data for railroads and DEM data...all freely available on internet. Wouldn't it be nice if there was an easy way to import all this directly into MSTS. What a great starting point for new route design.
BTW...this is somewhere a little south of San Franciso.

Either way, this data should come in very handy to someone trying to design a new route becuase you can also get very accurate Lat/Lon coordinates to help in manually placing track.

Software used was DLG Viewer 3.7
Free at http://mcmcweb.er.usgs.gov/viewers/dlg_view.html
You can get the Data at http://edc.usgs.gov/doc/edchome/ndcdb/ndcdb.html
Or for SF bay area DEMs try http://bard.wr.usgs.gov/ They have 10 meter DEMs which are more accurate than ones from USGS.

How can you build tracks scenery? Can you specify land elevation manually when you are creating your scenery? I haven't got (MSTS) it as I am in Australia.

Yest you can adjust the land elevation, but from what I can tell it must be done manually.
