Deleting Structures from a route

I've started making a new route. I Copied all the shapes & textures from Marias Pass route to my route. If I place a factory or other structure I cannot delete it. I highlight it to wireframe mode and hit the delete key but it never gets deleted. Has anyone run into this?

Be sure you have the select object tool selected, if you do the building will turn red and into a wireframe after. Then you can press DELETE.
