Name of route: Cleveland Union Terminal. Folder name: CUT
Version and release date: beta available July, 2005
Description: Electrified passenger route between Collinwood (MP 0) and Linndale (MP 17), but CUT property extends to Berea (MP 22). I included the next local stops beyond CUT tracks at Euclid (east) and Columbia/Olmsted Falls (west) for a total of 33.37 miles. Route includes parallel main lines of the New York Central, Nickel Plate and Big Four and connecting lines Erie, Baltimore & Ohio and Wheeling & Lake Erie's former Cleveland Belt & Terminal.
Installation method: Clickteam executable.
Size of download: four files totalling 91 MB
Size of installed route: 219 MB
Fantasy, prototypical, or freelance operations: Prototypical. Built from original CUT construction blueprints discovered during the Tower City renovation in the late-'80s. Some compromises were necessary due to the limitations of MSTS.
Freight or passenger: Mostly passenger, but plenty of nearby freight operations as well.
Era or genre: 1930-53 heavy electric, but can be used into the diesel era up to the end of Conrail by unchecking "Overhead Wires" in Advanced Display Options. Most of the CUT gantries lasted until the Conrail breakup in 1999.
Location: In and around Cleveland, Ohio, USA.
Length of mainline: 33.37 miles.
Length of branches: Most are just long enough to spawn a long train out of sight. Both NYC and NKP Orange Avenue branches are included, but severely abridged due to tile object counts.
Number of branches: Approximately 10 or so.
Number of sidings: Minimal.
Number of yards: 10.
CUT: Collinwood (NYC also), Linndale (Big Four also), Downtown Coach Yard.
NYC: Kingsbury Run, Rockport.
NKP: E. 55th Street, Northern Ohio Food Terminal.
Big Four: Cloggsville (NKP also), DK (severely abridged due to tile object count).
Erie: Literary Street (severely abridged due to tile object count).
Mixture of dual and single track: CUT, NKP, NYC, and Erie are all dual or multiple tracks. B&O, W&LE and branches are mostly single track.
Level of trackside detail: Only interactive objects are mileposts. Signals are static, but will be replaced with working models in the final version.
Amount of scenery completed: appox. 75%
FPS specs, with qualifiers: 7-15 fps throughout, slightly less downtown on 1.3 GHz P4 with 640Mb RAM and 64Mb GeForce2 video card at 1600x1200x16 and detail sliders maxed.
Activities provided: Basic eastbound and westbound passenger runs and introductory train ride.
Non-default consists or rolling stock required in activities: None, but recommended are Island Electric's CUT P-1 electric locomotives and Damon Swanson's heavyweight passenger cars available at train-sim.com.
Add-in track sets: Xtracks 3.6.
Tsection.dat file used: Build 00019.
Payware or freeware: Freeware.
Known problems: Creeping terrain issue at Cloggsville near where the CUT passes under the NKP main.
