View Full Version : Get rid of empty yards in your activities

Ok, here is my idea on simple consists. They are nothing other than a box with some transparencies. I am showing them in various stages of progression so you get the idea. They can be fully operable in the Sim too if built as regular cars/consists. The main thing is to fill the yards with cars while using them carefully in activities so you don't have to drive near them or move them to ruin the illusion. You could carefully use real cars on the tracks near the operator. These are very early progress shots. Ideas are welcome.

keep in mind ACE files are very large, so coal cars are a good candidate, as they could all be the same and look realistic. But an entire yard of UP boxcars might look odd.

Great idea! For filling a yard, it might be worthwhile to try opaque textures which can be much smaller (DXT compression). Also, since they are probably going to be viewed from a distance, yuo could use 256x256 textures instead of the usual 512x512. Up close they wouldn't look very good, but if you place them behind one string for normal cars, I think they could pass.

Great Idea and you wereonly a week after the same thing had been done over on UKtrainsim.
