Hi, people.

I'm a little late and see that you've already started the party without me. I haven't been able to get to the internet for almost a week and I missed Nels post! I would have voted yes for the forum. I've often asked questions which have gotten lost in the flurry of other posts!

Anyway, back to topic: I have been trying to come to grips with 3D Canvas to create a working throttle for the GG1. I have made a rudimentary item which matches the 21 positions set out in the CLW GG1 eng file. It is not as detailed control in appearance as the real thing - it will take me too long to learn to use the 3D package and with Christmas coming up I don't have the time to study it. I really want to get this one out in time for Christmas.

The dead-man's switch is visible in idle but not elsewhere. The shape was made by overlaying a photo as a template and the colours were picked up off the same photo.

Idle position:

Approx 30% throttle:

Assuming all goes well there will be four cvf files to chose from - Left, Fireman, more interesting Fireman, and rear (Cab 2).

Excellent, sam!! Many thanks for your effort on this. The CLW GG1 is one of my favorite locomotives and that sterile acela cab was way outta place. I can't wait for this. A nice touch would be a view along the front hood from the engineer's seat. I didn't see that in your screenshots, but it would be a nice feature if you can incorporate it into the finished product.

ROCK

I have now added the view of the hood as it would be seen by a seated engineer.

There seems to be a propensity at the moment for people to ask for large slabs of metal to be made visible through a cab window but this is usually only because reference photos are taken standing up or leaning in through side windows or from memories of standing with your nose pressed up against the glass as a kid. Sure you see more metal that way! My GG nose is pulled from a photo taken from roughly the correct sitting position. It is the same photo that I used to get the window shape. Here is a direct comparison. The red line is a highlight of the hood area which I added for reference while working on the picture (saved it over the original - whoops).

Here's a quick look at what it is like to tote the heavyweight cars about:

Hey Sam

LOL Kind of like the Cone Heads on Saturday Night Live wanting large quantities of beer and chicken embryos.

Great looking job as usual. Since the cab control car cab is a thought, would you like me to send you a file on my cab control stuff, driver file, cabview I'm using now and sounds?

Hey SAM!

Amazing as usual!

Yes, sounds like a good idea. I have only seen one photo and that does not show much of the cab at all. If you have anything which expands on this it would be good.

In fact everyone should start posting photos of any real cabs - someone is going to see something that takes their fancy and create it for MSTS.

So Samspade, what has happened to your "Workings" posting?
Regards, Johan.

Johan,

I was hoping other people would list what they were working on to avoid doubling up. Nice work on the General by the way. That one needs a good cab to keep the feel - that should be style!
