Thanks samspade, for the schaweet GG1 cab! I can now drive these beauties the way God and the PRR intended! :D
Don
PS-I hunted for an hour and a half the other night for an original-style AEM-7 cab and came up fruitles. :( Mot sure what to do about that one. I've even contemplated writing a letter or sending an email to Amtrak to see if anyone there could help.
Whaddya think, brain storm or brain fart?

I looked for a picture of an original AEM-7 cab a long time ago and came up empty. You could try asking Amtrak if they have one. Before 9/11, they would probably be cooperative. Now, I'm not sure with the level of paranoia going around. Then again, what sane person would hijack a train, especially one powered by catenary that can be turned off remotely? Where exactly would one go with it?

LAST EDITED ON Dec-28-01 AT 11:47AM (EST)[p]Hmmm...I found these on the first site that I went to. Unfortunately, they are the newer, computerized version, not the original.

The latest information that I have suggests that the AEM7 came with a desktop with analog gauges. So the description should be 'pre-digital' rather than 'pre-desktop'.
I imagine it will look something like this:

The speedo might be biggerthan the other gauges or the layout a little different but I think I will do the basic cab arrangement like this and put in the gauges last - give people time to come up with some data.
Anyone ever drive one who has a good memory?????

Hey Sam!!
The GG1 is ABSOLUTELY FRICKIN FANTASTIC!!! I AM SOOOO IMPRESSED!!! I had to "modify" the views like we talked about before in the geeps, but wow!!!
You get better with each one!! Only thing I can't get to work is the open panel. But I have had so much fun as a hogger AND fireman I haven't had time to see the open panel!! LOL
PPPPPPPPLLLLLLLLLLLEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAASSSSSSEEE Keep 'em coming!!

Uh, you cannot get the Open panel to work because there is an error in the cvf file '-FWO':
The line
CabViewFile ( ..\\..\\Common.Cab\\GG1\\GG1-Fire-NALW.ace )
should read
CabViewFile ( ..\\..\\Common.Cab\\GG1\\GG1-Fire1-NALW.ace )
^
* note the '1'
Sorry 'bout that...

Just a follow up on the cvf files - it seems Chuck had a hard drive crash and restored the wrong files, so allt eh cvf files are not as I had finished them!
As Chuck has gone away for a few days, I thought I would try a small experiment and turn you all into beta testers. Here is a link to my files, untested by anyone. Grab these and test them please. Chuck will have to release them properly later but it will be interesting to see how many people are actually reading this forum!

I saw those also. Unfortunately, they are of the AEM-7s after they were rebuilt. I haven't been able to come up with any pictures prior to the rebuilds. The speedo was a rather large 150 mph unit on the upper right corner if memory serves me correctly(I glanced inside the cab when getting off of a Metroliner in Penn Station in 1983 or 84). I'm 100% sure it was a 150 mph range, but I'm a little fuzzy on any other details. Too bad I didn't have a camera with me :(

Sam,
I just wanted to tell you how much I've enjoyed your GG1 cab. It makes all the difference in the whole GG1 experience.
I was wondering if it is possible to get just a little bit better view down the tracks from the engineer's seat. Perhaps by moving the view to the right just a little. I don't mind playing with the numbers in the .cvf file if I knew which ones did what.
At any rate, this is one fine addition to MSTS. Thanks again.

Actually Rock that claustrophobic view out the narrow window and down the long hood is a GG1 trademark.... To operate it properly, like the big boys did - LOL, you need to have the Firemans view selected and jump between them since in real life the engineer depended on the fireman to watch the left of the right of way and call signals and things he couldn't see from his side.....
