I have created a new activity using Carlisle-Settle local service as a template.. A new consist is included ok and a couple of cars left on sidings (Cumwhinton and Appleby) along the way for connecting to the train en-route.
I cannot get the siding switches to change so that I can reverse into the sidings. I have tried left/right clicking red dots and black dots on the route map in activities to no avail.
Help would be appreciated.

Yours is a route design question and should be posed in that forum for a decent answer, I think. It has something to do with adding reverse points.

The problem with Settle-Carlisle is the same problem on the Hisatsu line. Kuju set only a limited number of manual switches on Hisatsu. I saw plenty of switches but no manual ones on the small section of S-C I looked at a few minutes ago.
If you set the route path in your activity so the train follows only that path, there shouldn't be a problem. But if you want to do your own switching in a more or less random fashion, you have to convert the automatic switches to manual ones. This done in the route editor and it's fairly simple to do, but not for the faint-hearted as I suspect one can really screw things up.
You'll need to familiarize yourself somewhat with how the route editor works -- I won't go into that here. Navigate to the switch you want to change and orient yourself so the two diverging tracks point away from you (makes things much easier). Query the switch to find out what it's name is -- this is the name Kuju gave to that particular object. Find an object in the database with the same name, but with a 'M' in it. Delete the switch and replace it with the manual version -- it should snap into place.
All of this assumes that manual versions of the switches exist for S-C. I didn't check.
Good luck,
