View Full Version : AMD103 Cabview

Hey all....Was hoping someone would help with this one. First off, I was really happy to see the AMD103 cabview come available. With the correct windshield and side views, to me it made the whole Amtrak experience on MSTS jump up. I'm certainly not criticizing the creator, as I enjoy the work he's done and volunteered to share with us.

I would however like to increase the realism a bit for myself, by simply fixing the forward view from the cab. In the version I have, the view rides a bit too high. In the actual units, the seats ride on an increased floor panel, and ride very close to the desktop and windshield. This provides more view of the tracks going beneath the cab than appears in the sim. You can view the trackage close to the front of the locomotive, where in the sim, it's almost as you're sunk down in the seat in a drunken stooper. Maybe correct for some engineers from the 70's....lol....But I'd like to rise my head and have a better view of the right of way here. By lowering the whole forward cabview perimeters, the view should appear more like I desire. However I have no clue how to do this.

I read the earlier post about the same idea, but as I understood the replies only explained how to alter the "headsout" views. Can we lower the whole cabview? Or does it get more complicated? Thanks for any help.....Jason.

Jason which cabview package are you talking about? Ours (Sam Spades) or "the other white meat"??? LOL!
If it is Sam's we can certainly do something about it.... Especially if you have Pix of what you want! (Remember Sam is in Australia so we have to be very clear with him :-) )

BTW, Are you employed by a RR co. in Engine Service?

Chucksc, I'm one of the " white meat " you are killing yourself laughing about??? Why I would not know? I however must say that there is quite a quantity of Simmers out there that do like my Cabs. If you don't like it, just don't download it. It is not necessary to " LOL " at our work. I agree, Samspade's work is great in his own right and for a lot of Simmers, but so is ours.
If you don't want me to carry on with what I am attempting, just say so and I will try to make you happy by ceasing forthwith.
Johan.

Johan,

You have totally misunderstood Chuck's comment! He was asking which CAB - NALWorks or the other ('...white meat') - a play on the old Pork commercials ("Buy Pork... the Other white meat") - it was this reference he was laughing at, not the work of other people.

There's another old saying - "America and Britain; two nations divided by a common language" - it is very evident on the internet - I have to read a lot of things several times before I think I understand what people mean sometimes!

You are correct in one thing though ; a lot of people enjoy your work. It would be an injustice to them for you to stop work because there is more than one designer on the market or because you felt someone did not like your work (which has not been suggested, I must point out again).

Thanks Sam,
For clarifying that for me....
Sorry Johan,
Some times I forget that not everyone on here speaks English (American) as their first language.....
consequently the humor gos awry...
I definately was not making fun of you or your work!
or anyone else for that matter....

Thanks Sam and Chuck, for clarifying this misintepretation on my part. I apologise to you Chuck for flying of the rails.
It is, I agree sometimes dificult to follow what has been meant by certain sayings, especially when the other person or persons are not in the knowledge of Movies, Sayings, etc etc
Anyway, Thanks to you two gentlemen, again.
Regards, Johan.

LAST EDITED ON Feb-05-02 AT 04:16PM (EST)[p] Chuck, Sam, and Johan......First of all sorry for all the chaos here. I'd buy us a round of cold beer to settle everyone's nerves, but Nels hasn't applied for a liquor license yet....*grin*.....The net does make it easy for misunderstandings to occur....Glad we patched that one up with no bruised feelings. I really enjoy the work of Johan as well as NALW.

Now....Thank you for the response Chuck, and I'd really appreciate the help. I am an engineer, I hired out in January 1995 on a regional in Ohio, the Wheeling & Lake Erie. I can get shots of the cab on a P42 unit if you'd like. However....All that needs to be done with the current P42.cvf, for my taste, is remove the upper frame (Maybe just thin it out), and then lower the level of the cab, or tilt the view forward (Is that possible?). This would really improve the realism of the view of the tracks. On a P42, you ride up and near to the desktop and windshield, and have a better view of the right of way than is available in the cab I'm using. The best way to describe it is to say that currently it's as if your head is sunken down in the seat, as I mentioned above in trying to explain what I'd like to improve on.

The cab file I'm referring to here is the P42cvf, desinged to be used by the drivable AMD103 (P42). I'm afraid I don't know who authored the cab as I deleted the folder after installing the view. I downloaded it here at Train-Sim and will go back to see what the zip file was. I'm looking forward to someone helping me figure out how to do this. EDIT : The cab is the P42cvf by Mr.Cox. Great work and very enjoyable, just as the GP7/9/and F45. You guys do great work. All I'd like to alter is the view of the tracks, I guess I'm just looking to add a personal touch of my own.

Chuck, Sam, and Johan....I'd be happy to help however I can in your projects, I'll mail you photos of any cabs that I can get shots of that you may need. One of the things I'd like to see is a Dash-9 with the standard controls of the GP38, for my NS D-9. Original NS Dash-9's have the standard control stands in place instead of the desktops. Also I'd like to see a GP cab with mint green paint, for my Chessie fleet. Another nice touch to the GP cab would be an old Motorola radio.....I'm full of thoughts, just no idea how to go about making them reality. Thanks for the help.....Please respond.......Jason.

No, it is the NALWorks one from Jason's message. Johan is just volunteering to tweak the view for Jason.

If Jason wishes to post pictures of the Dash-9 as he would like it, we can add it to our schedule. Forward, left and right views would be useful...

I have already made a machine-green version of the GP9 - I don't know if Chuck has got it up to the library yet or not. Maybe need to address that.

Chuck, I never said or claimed anything being mine if I did not do or was involved with the design, at all. I suppose it is again something I misinterprid.
Sam, thanks for understanding. It is as you say, I am volunteering, as Jason was having this problem right from the start of this posting......He has not received a answer to the problem and this is the only reason.

Thanks for the offer of help Johan... But once we knew for sure it was ours (there is another Genesis style cab out there which was really what my original question was about) Sam jumped on it and is talking to this gentleman off line on resolving his problem....

hmm, I know of only one Genesis cab (with modifications)... where in the deepest space did you guys see <<another>> Genesis cab?

chucksc

I think its called the Genesis starter kit or something like that... basically has a slightly reworked Dash9 cab (same .ace fles IIRC).....

In view of this Posting becoming something that I really do NOT want to get involved with, I withdraw myself and offer Jason an apology for not going to help him anymore, in persueing this matter.
I will concentrate on things that concerns me.
Over and Out.
