Here's a quick revision of the GP38 cab I did this afternoon. I removed the post between the windows and moved the speedometer over to try to simulate the L-shaped cab windows found on some second-generation EMD units. Tell me if it's worth uploading.

Well, it would definitely look more appropriate in an SD45.....

Hi Johan, what's been cooking is that I have this very little plan of modifying one of those NAWL cabs to use with SD40/45s for my personal use only, but I'll need a little help, I guess it should be fine with NAWL as long as it shall be used by me only.

uh??

Actually, my modification makes perfect sense. It was quick and it does what it needs to do, which is replicate the L-shaped window found on the SP SD45T-2 I'm working on.

To answer the other statement, I am using it on an SD45T-2, so it is appropriate.

oh I see where you're goin now, but then still, the rails should be moved over to the right, you are not sitting in a middle of the cab, or is it?

Just as a matter of clarification...I do NOT want to get in a written/verbal.... call it what ever....arguments again. I also would like to state that I'm not trying to steal anyones Thunder.
I am also trying to improve MSTS in my small way.
The question is: Due to what I've read, does NALW own the exclusive Rights on the GP38 and other Locos? Are they the official designers and/or copy right holders? Must permission be obtained from them to make a Cab, to be uploaded.? I for one, must now be labouring away, and only allowed to give all my tedious work, to only One or two persons? OR for that matter, Once I've completed a cab, and NALW does not approve, I have to scrap the whole lot? This is lots of hours and sometimes frustations gone down the drain.
I purchased, the programs that I'm using, and I don't charge a Cent for this nor my time.
I also do not approve of getting hurled over the coals if I'm NOT guilty of stealling anything.
Please don't derail....just give me a fair answer. Also, NALW please give me a list of all your Locos, so that I can stay away from them, in order to avoid this kind of conflicts, I am experiencing of late. ( Refer another post somewhere under "Cab Design ")
Johan.

Johan,

No-one wants to create any arguments here so I will gladly try to clarify things for you. Two separate threads appear to be getting confused here.

1. SP9800 has asked a question about a modified GP38 cab view.
2. Alex has suggested the view should be shifted to the small window.

So far nothing is involved but the default KUJU graphics.
NALW is NOT involved nor have we not claimed to be involved.

No-one else other than SP9800 has the power to decide what happens with this creation. KUJU / Microsoft provided the tools for us to play with their work and that is what we have all been doing.

3. Alex mentioned that he was asking NALW for permission to modify one of the NALW cabs. This was done in a separate thread.

His question to NALW has nothing to do with SP9800 and his cab, nor even this thread. Alex only mentioned it because you asked him what was going on. NALW are not involved with any modifications to the GP38. NALW have not even done one. Everyone is using yours so I can't see why we should. I'd rather we make things that haven't been done yet.

The only time anyone needs to ask NALW if they can change something is if the new work is based on a NALW cab or rolling stock.

You do not need our permission to create anything new or modify the default stock. You do need to ask us if you want to use our components or views. As you say yourself, a lot of hours go into their creation.

I would expect that if anyone wanted to change YOUR work they should ask you first. After all, YOU own the intellectual property on your creations. It is just licenced for free use within MSTS.

I hope this clear is clear for you.

Judging from the download records I think almost everyone uses your work in MSTS. You have provided some very essential life to the trains in MSTS.

There is a photo list in the Locomotive Design forum of the cabs released by NALW if you want to hunt that up (Title "Now I know they ALL don't look like... ")

Sam,I would like to put it on record ( Except for the default, spares, if a person can call it that ), I have Never used anyone's work without their Permission, as far as I'm aware of, and I also never intended to. I have used work by various designers, who in their Kindness has offered it to me.
I hope that in the future NALW and I could come to some sort of an agreement............Not to step on each other's toes. I re-ittirate that I was not trying to steal NALW's thunder, I merely wanted to help some-one and this tended to be at my expense....not moneywise.
I certainly will endeavour to try and not aggrevate NALW's staff, if by anymeans I do step over the line by using your stuff without permission, Then, I really would require a verbal warning etc.
Thanks for your Info,
Johan.

So, is this cab worth my time? Or is it complete garbage? Does anybody want a copy? Am I crazy?

Nope you're not crazy and there definately is a need for something other than the default GP38 cab for the middle aged GM Hood units like the SD40-50 and the GP40-50
Go for it my man!
