View Full Version : Is it difficult to change the view outside the cab?

Would appreciate some advice. I've not tried doing my own cabs or reskins yet, but want to attempt something simple. I've got Mark Toland's Norfolk Southern SW-1500, with a black exterior and his original green exterior view from inside the cab. I've got mspaint and the files that came with MSTS - assuming I know how to select and change the color of an object in a picture, can this be done with the basic software I've mentioned, as a beginner project?

If there's a link to a tutorial I would appreciate someone posting it for me. Thanks for the help!

Mark, What you want to do is relatively simple and you can use the tools you have. You will need one more though - that is Martin Wright's TGATools2, unless you have the original bitmaps from Mark Toland of the cab. You use TGATools to extract the image from the ace file so that you can edit it. You should also have at least the second version of the Makeace tool from Microsoft. The version on the original Train Sim CD is worthless for cabs! You can use it but the results are not great.

There are no tutorials that I am aware of. You might want to read some of the other forum posts here, though. I suggest the following one as a starting point:

Thanks, Sam - this is exactly what I needed to begin the learning process.
