As I further obligate myself to improve MSTS (and the first to post here). I would ask how do I make a sucessful horn for MSTS.
I want to make a good K3, K5, the good ol Leslie S3 in different
pitches, and a few others. What do I need to do it, and I want
to make it loop good too. Any ideas?

Here's a copy of a post I did quite a while ago;

Getting good whistles. I'm using Sound Forge 4.5, bought used on eBay for under $50, boxed. Keep the entire file to 3-4 seconds. Make sure there aren't loop markers way at the ends ( a little L up at the top of the screen!) of the file.
Place loop markers in the constant sound section, around 1/2 -1 sec in and about the same distance from the end. Then try the loop part and see how it sounds. ( I find it easiest to get a good pitch match, then worry about the click or other sound at the start /end. You fix this by matching the wave form up. Try to find a similar form , just crossing the centerline, for both the start and end of the sound that loops) One end or the other will have to be adjusted over and over until it is seemless, or it will have a nasty repeating glitch. Markers seem to be recognized and usable only inside the loop. I find it best to use only one, and put it just past the first loop marker.

It is easiest to just make the mono file, this is the one that will have a x_...... as the start of the file name. Make sure it is 16 bit, 11, 025 Hz. Make a copy of it and then use the conversion in your program to make a 2 track (stereo file). The sim uses lower volume in the right channel, but mostly, for the set of inside files you need, it just needs to be stereo.

I'm getting whistles that can be as short as 3/4 of a second on the first sounding, and under a 1/2 sec on subsequent soundings. It takes some fancy wrist action on the space bar though! With a good loop, it sill also sound as long as you hold the space bar down. To get shorts, hold, let up momentarily, hold again for just a short time, let up, and hold again. The middle one will be very short.

Hope this helps!

Steve

PS, You might want to get my NP GP9 sound file from the downloads and look at how it is constructed. It came out real nice!

Do you (or anyonne else) know how to do that using Cool Edit Pro ?

Loop markers are also known as cue points. Your editor will either support their editing or not. If yours doesn't try downloading Goldwave. I've successfully edited markers using it.

How do I use Goldwave to make a horn? I downloaded the demonstration version. Can I use it? I wish slybnsftopekasub would send me some of his horns :-)
