Hi folks,
Apart from the GE Dash 9 and EMD GP38, are there any proper sounds for any other diesel locos? I notice that Abacus has done an LTV Mining add-on pack; have they included new sounds, or do they simply use the "standard" MSTS ones? If so, then all EMDs will sound like GP38s and presumably all Alco will be doing impressions of new GEs.
Your comments would be much appreciated.

Hi Mark,
You may want to check out our SD70M, its FREE to download and comes with new custom cabs and sounds. Have fun!

Yes, there are several sound sets available from this site. 3dtrains did the creation of the LTV set you mentioned and I think they included a new sound set but I'm not sure. Ask Marc at 3dtrains.com and I'm sure he will be happy to answer. CLW had an Alco sound set that went with their PA set. Not sure if it's still available.

Say Rob, is it ok for me to repackage the power_cruse and ex_power_cruse in the EMD 40 sound pack with my Burlington Northern #9924? Credit will be given in the readme!

Thanks for the comments. Looking through the add-ons on this site, a lot of engines are just cosmetic re-skins. There was even an Alco RS that had been given the GP38 sounds - urghhh! But that's not to belittle the work of the people who have provided some superb looking engines. So, considering North American built power, we appear to have the following sounds;
GE Dash 9 (7FDL16) included with MSTS
EMD GP38 (12-645) included with MSTS
Alco PA (16?/12?-244)
EMD F7 (16-567) LTV Mining add-on
From these generic sounds, it would be possible to cover a broad range of locomotives. Have I missed any? I think i've seen an F-M add-on with sounds but i've no idea if they were accurate or not.
Regards,
Mark (who only goes up to (run) 8!!!)

You also forgot the EMD "40 series" sounds for SDs and GPs that we uploaded ( a repackage of Rob Easterday's stuff) and the earlier 40 Series sounds created from a Soundtrax diesel throttle system by Andy Hockin which we repackaged for GP40 and GP40p "stuff".
Also we have an F40 set that will be released along with our F40
And there are more Horns and Stuff than you can shake a stick at...
Our Matt Donnelly alone has done M3, P5, and K5la and the Leslie for the GG1....
We also have the New Haven Hancock Whistle courtesy of 5 Chime associates...
There is also a "fake" H series out there that is supposed to be a Conrail horn (sounds better than the default GP38)
So in a word sir.... WHat is your pleasure

Okay folks, so I can also add;
EMD 16-645
EMD 16-645, F40 (I guess you could get away with the above sound at run 8 all the time!)
Alco 251B-6
And I forgot the EMD 16-710 from the SD70
whockin: yes, I would love to hear your sounds, especially the Alco. Which engine V12? V16?
Chuck Schneider: my pleasure? Hearing accurate sounds blasting forth from my speakers!

Mark

Chuck Schneider,
Is your F40 w/F40 sounds available yet? If so, where would I find to download/purchase? I found a beautiful looking F40PH out on this site that looks like it uses GP38 sound set but would like to find some actual F40 sounds to go with it as their turbochargers have their own unique whine, especially from within the cab.

Did Gaétan Bélanger get these F40 sounds too? I've got new sounds in his beta Amtrak F40, and they are not the Soundtrakkz (Or however it's spelled) or the SD40 sound pack, but they sound great, and set up that it's running at run 6 always, to simulate the engine running the HEP!
