View Full Version : Steam Dynamo sound and steam plume ???

I'm trying to see a way to make this possible. I'll post this in the sound and the loco forums, as it overlaps.

I'm wondering if the "H" key that turns on the headlight could also trigger a sound stream of a steam dynamo (not too loud as they can be abnoxious!) and a steam plume from dynamo. Anyone know what trigger number the H key is?

I've noticed some things like the whistle can use loops within the sound file, others, like the power cruise waves can't. It would be nice if the dynamo could wind up to speed when the headlight came on, hold in the loop, and the wind down when shut off. I've got the sound files.

This would be a great addition to the realism of steam.

Looking at "D9cab.sms" trigger 37 plays a sound called "d9_flightsf.wav". This is the sound of a switch click. Can anyone confirm this is the headlight on/off click?

Trigger 37 isn't re-used in the fscotcab.sms so may still be available. Would simply be a case of creating a new stream for it. However there is only one trigger, ie no discrete on and off. Not sure if the playing of a loop can therefore be done.

Only one way to find out!

I think it should be possible to do the sound, but I seriously doubt we could get the steam plume to work.

Well, a quick check tells me that at least for the outside, it won't work. When I used the same trigger to turn the loop on and off inside the cab, it worked, but was somewhat screwy. Outside, however, it did not work at all.

You might be able to do the steam plume with gray lights and some ingenuity if you don't mind that it only works when the headlight is on.
