I need help, please.
I downloaded the MSTS Modern Track Sounds, file name wr sound.zip and now I cannot remove them from the sim.
I followed the instructions in the read me file when I installed the download. I did rename the original "ttype.dat" file so I could tell it aprart from the "ttype.dat" file that came with the download.
Now when I try to restore the original "ttype.dat" file to the USA Routes 2 file and remove the "new sounds" from the SOUND folder and then play the sim it gives me an error message that says it is still looking for all those other sounds from the wr sound.zip download and then the sim crashes!
How do I get rid of the wr. sound download for good when the Sim is still looking for it?
Any help would be appreciated.
THANKS!

Try this
1. delete the ttype.dat first and the rename the old back.
2. If this doesn't work delete the ttype.dat and instert the TS disk in the CD drive and closr when the opening screen comes on. Look in Explorer for the file on the cd, you may need to look on both, on just copy that one into the directory. Remember that you have for each route that you want to go back to the original sound.

Thanks for the help.
I looked on both discs and I can only find one ttype.dat file and that says it is for Europe?
It seems like this sim won't give up anything without a huge fight before it lets go.
Is there more than one ttype.dat file, as in one for every route?

Each route does have its own ttype.dat file. It sounds as if the new wr sounds had the same names as the original (don't actually know as I haven't tried them) which if you replace not delete.
Look in the original ttype.dat for the .sms file names used by each track type and check for these in the main (not route) sound folder. These will list the .wav files used, which sould also be in the same sound folder.
If the files are lost/missing then try this. Back-up your copy of the route concerned, re-install just that route, copy the missing files, delete the re-installed route, copy back your original route, add the 'missing' sound files back in.

I finally solved this problem by re-installing the Sim over my previous install and then I was able to remove the wr sounds.zip file. Now I am back to the original sounds.
I am, however, hearing a difference in my Dash 9 horn, that I had not heard before.
When I use it leaving Whitefish and for the rest of trip up the pass, it does not sound right.
When I depress the space bar and hold it down to sound the horn it has almost a wavering sound to it. It is hard to describe. When I use the horn leaving Shelby it does not sound that way. It is a good "solid" un-waverng sound. Does that make sense?
I have a Sound Blaster Live 5.1 sound card and what I believe are the latest drivers.
Any thoughts out there on this?

I purposely named all the .sms files for my modern track sounds download so that they would not be the same as any default sounds. If you want to uninstall the sounds from a particular route, you just have to put the original ttype.dat file back in that route's folder. You don't even have to delete the files that were copied into the Train Simulator\Sound folder(they only use 233K anyway). If you did delete them, and you have the modern track sounds ttype.dat in your route folder, then that is likely what is causing the sim to crash.
If you don't have your original ttype.dat you'll have to edit the one that you have using Wordpad. The original USA1 and USA2 ttype.dat should be:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______
10
TrackType ( "Default" "USATrack0In.sms" "USATrack0Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Supported" "USATrack1In.sms" "USATrack1Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wood Supported" "USATrack2In.sms" "USATrack2Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "In Tunnel" "USATrack3In.sms" "USATrack3Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Steel Bridge" "USATrack4In.sms" "USATrack4Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Girder Bridge" "USATrack5In.sms" "USATrack5Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Under Bridge" "USATrack6In.sms" "USATrack6Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Bridge" "USATrack7In.sms" "USATrack7Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Crossing Platform" "USATrack8In.sms" "USATrack8Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wooden Bridge" "USATrack9In.sms" "USATrack9Ex.sms" )
The ttype.dat I used for my modern track sounds was:
SIMISA@@@@@@@@@@JINX0t1t______
10
TrackType ( "Default" "USATrack10In.sms" "USATrack10Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Supported" "USATrack11In.sms" "USATrack11Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wood Supported" "USATrack12In.sms" "USATrack12Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "In Tunnel" "USATrack13In.sms" "USATrack13Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Steel Bridge" "USATrack14In.sms" "USATrack14Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Girder Bridge" "USATrack15In.sms" "USATrack15Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Under Bridge" "USATrack16In.sms" "USATrack16Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Concrete Bridge" "USATrack17In.sms" "USATrack17Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Crossing Platform" "USATrack18In.sms" "USATrack18Ex.sms" )
TrackType ( "Wooden Bridge" "USATrack19In.sms" "USATrack19Ex.sms" )
Note that they are very similar. I just used 10 to 19 for the file numbers instead of 0 through 9. Numbers 10 through 19 were NOT used at all by any default MSTS sounds.
