I just downloaded the North American Locomotive Works GP40 sound files, but even after reading the readme, I'm still not sure what I need to do or change to make this work. I sure appreciate any help you folks can give to a rookie at Train Sim!

Thanks,
Chris

There are two lines in the eng file that need to be changed. Open the eng file in word pad and search for .sms. The first should look something like this: gp38Eng.sms (Note this is the Eng sounds) change it to look like this: ..\\..\\Common_snd\\EMD_SD40\\sd40Eng.sms
Continue search and the second should look something like this: gp38Cab.sms, change it to look like this ..\\..\\Common_snd\\EMD_SD40\\sd40Cab.sms

They should then work. The way the have it the readme did not work for me for some reason but by editing them like I did works like a champ.

Thanks Kevin, that got me one step closer. Before, when I tried to start a sim, MSTS couldn't find the new sound files, but now it does. The problem now is that I don't hear any engine sounds at all! I can change back to the default sounds no problem, but I don't hear the new sounds even though MSTS is supposedly finding them. Any ideas of what I'm missing?

Thanks,
Chris

Go to the options page and check the sliders or run mprofile. And,don't get made but did you check the volume on you speakers?
