View Full Version : How about trolley buses ?

As I am European, I don't know if you heard about trolley buses..., but I guess you have... ;-)
I just had a thought, would it be possible to let trolley buses run through a city ? Let me give you this example:
I am building the Nescio route at this very moment and I have included a tramway in one of the cities on that route, the tramway is a separate line, only connected to the main route with a single spur so that trolleys can run in the city as part of an activity... They don't enter the main railroad lines, they just drive from point to point on their own route inside the maine route ', (I hope you get the idea...)
Now if there would be a trolley bus with pantograph and the track sections would be lowered so that the street ( asphalt ) texture would cover the tracks it should be possible to have a trolley bus line..or am I wrong ?
Sadly I don't have the time to build a trolley bus, I am too busy with building my route. Anyone like to give it a try ?

How about building a new track texture, that looks like ashphalt/concrete/brickwork? Make it match the "road", and it would look perfect. The hardest part would be the overhead, since there would have to be 2 wires, rather than one...

Seems quite possible to me. I'm not much of a fan on trolley buses but it'd be worth trying. I'll put it on my to-do list. I agree that the dual overhead is the main problem.

As far as I know, you can have unconnected track sections, your tram line wouldn't need to connect to the main line just for activities.

Just love trolley buses! I saw a couple of them, when i was in Tallinn in Estonia.
Maybe my ideas can help?

1. Make the bus like a train.
2. Make the tracks invisible.
3. Put the overhead-wires as high you can.

If you donīt do 2: You can run trams too.
If you do 3: You can have two poles on the bus.

I have a textured 3d model of a typical american trolleybus. It may be useful as a base for developing a Train Simulator model.

Download it at http://www.fastmodel.com/models

If i know how i sure would do it (and had the program to do it)!

Read the product title carefully Microsoft TRAIN Simulator! Buses would not work on a train simulator. I suggest you go to Microsoft and request a Microsoft Bus Simulator!!! Sheesh, people these days...They think there's no difference between buses and trains when there is!

But i was talking about drivable trolley buses. I want planes, boats and more stuff you can run (or add to activities). Is it just me who want that? Is it wrong to think this, because of the name of the sim?

In the real life itīs more than trains; so why can it not be that in the sim too. Maybe i should ask Microsoft for a train/plane/bus/boat simulator??????

Here: http://www.uktrainsim.com/filelib-directory.php?form_start=0&form_hide=on&form_country=54&form_sim=1&form_path=ty=8,cls=137&ASSESS=40c5fd70a9784a29265e870ba7dfe987 can you find a static trolley bus. Itīs Brighton Corporation Trolley Bus!

You are not the only one :-)

The Tug and Barge are done by Richard Cowen and the route of course by Rich Garber.

LOL! Where have you been? <chcukle> People have been driving helicopters, blimps, jets (air and ground), boats and who knows what else in MSTS for some time now. Buses would just be the latest addition.

Henry: Yes, i know about the helicopters, blimps, and jets. But i have not found a drivable boat or bus yet. If you know where to find a boat to download, please give me a link!

So where can we download it. There is no buses so far but there is cars for you to drive. The car is in the file library. There is also a handcart, front loader to drive(also in file library).

I believe that there are boats now available at avsim.com, the same location where the latest edition of "Bodiddly" is located. They may be a part of a larger package.

I suspect that there are probably others out there as well.

Hi,
The tugboats and barges are part of the Ohio Route Build #10.

Due to the fact that I have cloned the barges, Dick C did, Rich decided to include them in the steam pack too. or_steam.zip
In the original route, you get barges empty and loaded with coal.
In the steam pack, you get the same barges but with extra loads, like ballast, coke, iron ore, lime stone and sand.

The problem with trolley buses is they can swerve to the right and left of the pantograph wires and still stay connected. I don't believe this is possible in MSTS. Other than that I would imagine it would be possible. The maker of the San Diego Trolley was able to raise the street above the ties so only the rails showed. I don't see why you could'nt raise it higher so the rails did'nt show either.

Hey I could make some buses.

What about making the track pieces have a large number of tracks. I was looking through one of the .txt files that come with MSTS and I remember seeing something about changing the number of possible tracks that a piece of track has. ie a switch has two possible tracks and a straight peice has only one possible track?

This is kwk100 and I'm 10-10 on the side..

So you can drive ships on that route?

dvdhoven
10-20-2002, 02:33 PM
Hi,

Yes, but only a short piece of track. And only one switch in the harbour.
Rich created it for AI ships, but Richard Cowen created a nice cab for his tugboat.

If you want to give it a try, attached to reply is a path file, it adds the start point Boattrack and the end point Enocell to the route selection.

Hi,

Do you have the route build #10? Then you have the boat and the barges. Only missing some extra barges.
But with the route the boats and barges are packaged. They are installed in the folder BD-River-Craft in the Trainset folder.

You can find the names in the Consist Editor by searching on OHR. All the names start with OHR. The Tugs are Diesel engines and the barges are Freight cars.

I donīt know if I have your email address, but even if I have it, it will be difficult to find it.

The total folder is rather huge, about 7Mb. Somewhat to big to mail.

Hi,

I don't know. I think Rich Garber knows it.
I think Part 2, as Rich put most of the third party objects in Part 2.

HI

It's impossible to connect to the Fastmodel website and, as a consequence, it's impossible to download the 3D model of MBTA trolley bus: I'm very interested in trolley buses and so I ask you if it's possible to get the 3D model in other ways.

THANKS
